This low-growing perennial produces soft, textured leaves similar to sage, although without the aroma. It is often found on woodland rides and sites with acidic soils such as heathland. Its tubular flowers grow on a leafless stalk and are a soft yellow-green with distinct stamens that protrude from the flower.
