This clump-forming perennial has a wiry and scraggy appearance and is usually seen in wetter locations such as riverbanks, ditches and marshy areas. It is square-stemmed and has small lanceolate leaves which have a singular deep vein. It produces white clusters of delicate four-petalled flowers.
