Common Comfrey
Symphytum officinale
This hairy perennial is a common sight on verges, woodland rides and shaded areas. It is often seen in large numbers and is an extremely effective groundcover. Before flowering it produces large rosettes of hairy leaves. It produces drooping creamy white flowers from May till June. Traditionally it has been used as a medicine to treat muscle and joint pain.
