Wavy Hair-grass
Deschampsia flexuosa
This tuft-forming perennial grass is common throughout the UK and is mainly found on sites with acidic soils such as heathland and moorland. Its name comes from its wiry stems and narrow leaves which resemble hair. Dainty flowerheads appear from May till July and can be seen waving around in the breeze. It is also an essential food source for the caterpillars of the Wall Brown butterfly.
