Sweet Vernal-grass
Anthoxanthum odoratum
This perennial grass is typically found in grassland and pasture and produces a lovely scent due to the compound coumarin, which is associated with the well-known aroma of meadows and pasture towards Summer. It produces columnar flower spikes which are packed with sharp flowerheads. It is a reliable food source for the offspring of Skipper and Brown butterflies.
