This hardy, semi-evergreen perennial grows in almost any location, from grassland and waste ground to roadsides and lawns. Its lance-shaped leaves form a rosette at the base of its wiry stems and have prominent veins running down them. It produces light brown, conical flowers which are accentuated by its white, whisker-like stamens.
