This tufted, short-lived perennial grass is widespread throughout the UK and grows on most sites except those that are overly wet. It is a popular grass for grazed pastures and produces a densely packed, uniform flowerhead. It typically spreads by seed and so benefits from occasional grazing or cutting for seed dispersion.
