Sand Sedge

Carex arenaria

As the name suggests, this low-growing, rhizomatous perennial is found in sandy areas. It is a crucial species for stabilising sand dunes and is often one of the colonising species. It looks rather unruly with its slender leaves and light brown spikelets which appear from May till June.
